Beauty and the Beast in Vancouver Returns for a New Generation

Some musicals survive because people remember the songs. Others become part of family memory, childhood movie nights, school productions, and the kind of soundtrack people can still sing decades later. Beauty and the Beast in Vancouver returns to the Queen Elizabeth Theatre this fall, bringing Disney’s stage musical back for a one-week run from November 24 to 29, 2026.

The musical reaches Vancouver more than 30 years after its 1994 Broadway premiere. Based on Disney’s 1991 animated film, the stage production became one of Broadway’s longest-running shows, earned nine Tony Award nominations, and won Best Costume Design. Disney is now sending the show across North America again for the first time in more than 25 years.

That makes the Vancouver stop more interesting than another familiar title coming through town. The songs are known. The characters are known. The real question is what a new touring production can do with a show that many people first met as kids and are now old enough to book for date night, a family outing, or a very gay night at the theatre.

A Disney Musical Built for the Stage

Beauty and the Beast helped prove that Disney animation could work as a full Broadway musical. Alan Menken and Howard Ashman’s film score already treated songs as part of the storytelling, rather than stopping the plot for a musical break. The stage version expanded that score with songs written by Menken and Tim Rice, including “If I Can’t Love Her” and “A Change in Me.”

The current production brings back several members of the original creative team. Matt West directs and choreographs, with scenic design by Stanley A. Meyer, costumes by Ann Hould-Ward, and lighting by Natasha Katz. Linda Woolverton, who wrote the animated film screenplay, also wrote the musical’s book.

Vancouver Gets Eight Performances

Beauty and the Beast plays Tuesday through Friday at 7:30 p.m. Saturday has performances at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., while Sunday closes the run with shows at 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. That gives Vancouver eight performances across six days.

Single tickets go on sale August 13, 2026, at 10 a.m. PT through Broadway Across Canada and Ticketmaster Canada. Group orders of 10 or more can also be booked through Broadway Across Canada.

Disney and Broadway Across Canada are also warning buyers to stick with the official ticket outlets. Tickets bought through brokers or third-party sellers may not come with the same support if a ticket is lost, stolen, or affected by a performance update.

Why This Return Has So Much Nostalgia

There is an easy reason Beauty and the Beast still works as a night out. It has romance, a castle, talking household objects, huge costumes, dancing dishes, and one of Disney’s most recognizable scores. Subtlety was never really the assignment.

The story has also lived through several generations of pop culture. The animated film won Academy Awards, the Broadway musical became a major commercial success, and Disney’s 2017 live-action version went on to gross more than $1 billion worldwide.

Now the stage version gets another turn. For people who grew up with Belle, Lumière, Mrs. Potts, and Gaston, seeing the story live offers a different kind of nostalgia because the spectacle is happening a few feet away instead of on a screen.

There is also something wonderfully theatrical about a story that asks an audience to accept enchanted furniture, a cursed castle, an enormous ballroom number, and Gaston’s ego all in the same evening. Broadway can carry that kind of excess in a way a movie never quite can.
