Mrs. Doubtfire Vancouver Brings the Famous Nanny Back to the Stage
A Scottish nanny with questionable credentials and one very familiar face is heading to the Queen Elizabeth Theatre. Mrs. Doubtfire Vancouver brings the musical comedy based on the hit 1993 movie to the city from January 19 to 24, 2027.
The story follows Daniel Hillard, an out-of-work actor struggling after a divorce and the loss of custody of his children. His answer is wildly complicated. He creates Euphegenia Doubtfire, applies to become the family’s nanny, and attempts to stay close to his kids without revealing who is beneath the wig, accent, and sensible cardigan.
The disguise drives the comedy, but the musical also deals with divorce, parenting, and the hard choices people make when a family changes. Here is what Vancouver audiences can expect and when tickets become available.
The Movie Story Gets a Broadway Makeover
The stage version keeps the central setup that made the movie a favorite while using live musical numbers, quick costume changes, and physical comedy to build its own identity. Watching Daniel switch between himself and Mrs. Doubtfire in real time is part of the fun.
Karey Kirkpatrick and John O’Farrell wrote the musical’s book. Brothers Wayne and Karey Kirkpatrick, the Tony Award-nominated songwriting team behind Something Rotten!, created the music and lyrics.
The touring production draws from the original direction of four-time Tony Award winner Jerry Zaks and choreography by Lorin Latarro. Steve Edlund directs the current tour, with Michaeljon Slinger handling its choreography.

A Comedy About More Than a Disguise
Daniel’s plan is funny because it is so reckless. Every lie creates another problem, and keeping two identities apart becomes increasingly difficult.
Beneath the farce sits a more grounded story about a father learning that loving his children does not excuse every choice he makes. Mrs. Doubtfire may begin as a way around the rules, but the character forces Daniel to face his failures as a parent and former partner.
