Palm Springs Pride has unveiled the Palm Springs Pride Grand Marshals 2025, honoring a remarkable group of individuals whose activism reflects this year’s theme, Be Heard. From world-renowned icons to local changemakers, these six leaders represent resilience, advocacy, and a fierce dedication to keeping LGBTQ voices strong and visible. Their selection shines as a rallying call to the community that every story matters and every voice deserves space.
In a moment when LGBTQ rights face intense pressure from coast to coast, the choice of Grand Marshals carries even greater meaning. Legislative attacks on gender-affirming care, book bans, and anti-trans bills are sweeping the nation. Yet Palm Springs Pride responds by spotlighting people who embody courage, authenticity, and resistance. Each honoree demonstrates that advocacy is not only possible—it is essential.
The announcement has sparked excitement as Palm Springs gears up for a vibrant Pride season. With the parade scheduled for November 9, 2025, visitors and locals alike will see the streets come alive with music, color, and celebration. Beyond the glitter and glamour, the presence of this year’s Grand Marshals signals the heartbeat of Pride: honoring those who defend community, create change, and uplift the next generation.

Sister Roma: Legendary Voice Of The Community
Known as “the most photographed nun in the world,” Sister Roma has been a powerhouse in activism for nearly four decades. A proud member of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence since 1987, Roma’s journey began with HIV/AIDS outreach and education during a time of crisis. Over the years, Roma has raised millions for nonprofits and played a pivotal role in shaping campaigns like #MyNameIs, which fought for the rights of people using chosen names on social platforms.
Roma’s presence as Grand Marshal speaks directly to the long fight for LGBTQ dignity. While the challenges may have evolved, her mission has remained steady: visibility, justice, and compassion. She represents both a rich history and an unshakable commitment to the future of queer activism.
Holly Near: The Power Of Song
As the Celebrity Grand Marshal, Holly Near brings decades of artistry rooted in activism. A singer, songwriter, and storyteller, Near has built a career inspiring audiences through music that calls for peace, justice, and equality. Her voice is not just melodic—it’s a tool of resistance and a celebration of human diversity.
Near has consistently used her stage to highlight movements for women’s rights, LGBTQ justice, and global peace. Her participation in Palm Springs Pride reminds us that music has always been part of the movement, offering both healing and fire when needed most. Fans will also have a chance to experience her live at the Sunset Music & Comedy Festival, adding an artistic highlight to Pride week.
Peter Daut: Champion For The Desert
Community Grand Marshal Peter Daut is best known for his award-winning journalism on KESQ News Channel 3. Beyond his six Emmys, what sets him apart is his deep connection to Palm Springs. He has hosted countless fundraising events, championed local causes, and amplified LGBTQ stories through his reporting.
Daut’s visibility as a respected journalist brings recognition not only to himself but also to the broader LGBTQ community he represents. By bridging media with activism, he exemplifies how storytelling can inspire action and bring resources to those who need them most.
Honoring The Marsha P. Johnson Grand Marshals
Three trailblazers have been selected under the Marsha P. Johnson Grand Marshal category, a distinction that honors individuals uplifting transgender and gender-expansive voices.
- Esther Loewen is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist, educator, and host of Transgender Woman Talking. Through her work, she encourages self-acceptance and mental health awareness, ensuring transgender narratives are heard and celebrated.
- Renae Punzalan, a native Chamorro from Guam, serves as the Director of Youth Services at the Transgender Health & Wellness Center. She has been at the forefront of creating safe spaces for youth, organizing Trans Pride, and leading Transgender Day of Remembrance events.
- Jasper Price leads Trans & Gender Expansive Programs at the LGBTQ Community Center of the Desert. With a background in Gender Studies and Social Work, Jasper has designed affirming spaces and programs that help individuals explore their identities with dignity and support.
Together, these honorees reflect the strength of transgender leadership across the Coachella Valley and beyond. Their recognition underlines Palm Springs Pride’s ongoing commitment to lifting trans and nonbinary voices at the forefront of community building.
Dottie And Maude Crowned Pride Royalty
Beyond the Grand Marshals, Palm Springs Pride has also declared Douglas Woodmansee and Marshall Pearcy—better known as Dottie and Maude—as Pride Royalty for Life. Partners since 1976 and residents since 1980, they’ve been part of the Pride Parade since 1995. Their alter egos, Les Dames du Soleil, have helped raise more than $2 million for HIV/AIDS causes in Palm Springs.
Their recognition as Pride Royalty is more than symbolic—it’s a testament to decades of devotion to both the cause and the community. Dottie and Maude remind us that long-lasting love and activism often go hand in hand, leaving a legacy for others to follow.
Pride In The Face Of Adversity
“Amidst a rising tide of challenges facing the LGBTQ+ community nationwide, from legislative bans on gender-affirming care and curriculum censorship to a surge in anti-trans legislation, the dedication of these Grand Marshals is more crucial than ever,” said Jasmine Sullivan Waits, Executive Director of Palm Springs Pride. “They stand as a powerful force against a coordinated effort to silence LGBTQ+ stories and erase their presence from public life. They remind us that our stories cannot be silenced, and our community will not be erased.”
That sentiment captures the essence of Palm Springs Pride 2025. More than just a parade, it is an act of defiance, joy, and unity. By centering individuals who champion inclusion, the event reminds us that advocacy is alive and thriving in the desert.
