Windsor Court New Orleans Is Where the Posh Gays Stay

by Brian Webb  |  Sep 14, 2026  |  Time 9 mins  |

There comes a point during almost every New Orleans trip when quiet starts sounding very sexy. The Windsor Court New Orleans gives you that break without pulling you away from the city. The property sits one block off Canal Street, within walking distance of the French Quarter, restaurants, the Mississippi River, and the gay bars around Bourbon and St. Ann streets.

Windsor Court has a more traditional idea of luxury. Pale blues, cream fabrics, dark wood, original art, fresh flowers, marble, and British references run through the rooms and public spaces. It feels polished and a little posh, but still comfortable enough to come home to after several hours of New Orleans doing what New Orleans does best.

The rooms are large, the rooftop pool is peaceful, the fitness center is properly equipped, and the dining goes well beyond a basic lobby restaurant. Windsor Court also has genuine ties to the local LGBTQ community. For travelers who want the French Quarter close but prefer somewhere calmer and more refined at the end of the night, this one belongs on the shortlist.

One Block Off Canal Street Changes Everything

Windsor Court Marketing and Communications Manager Isabella Marciante describes the location well, “I think the block really makes a difference.” She adds, “You walk into the courtyard, and the rest of the world just kind of stops.”

The entrance courtyard is lined with trees and greenery, putting a physical break between the front doors and nearby Canal Street. The doormen will sometimes greet returning guests with “Welcome home,” a small detail that fits the more personal style of service.

It is the perfect location for a New Orleans stay. The French Quarter is close enough to walk to, but the property is removed from the crowds and late-night street noise that come with sleeping closer to Bourbon Street.

The Rooms Give You Space To Spread Out

Even the entry-level guest rooms start at 400 square feet, with one king or two queen beds. Deluxe suites increase to 600 square feet, premium suites up to 800 square feet, and the two-bedroom corner suite offers 1,250 square feet of luxurious space. The James J. Coleman, Jr. Presidential Suite tops out at an incredible 2,780 square feet!

The decor stays tue to soft powder blue, cream, white, and warm neutral tones. King beds have upholstered pale-blue headboards framed in dark wood, crisp white bedding, generous pillows, and upholstered benches at the foot. Traditional bedside tables, framed art, patterned carpet, and reading lamps give the bedrooms a finished residential look.

Suites continue that style with cream sofas, patterned armchairs, glass-topped tables, dark wood furniture, and separate areas for sitting and dining. The extra space is functional. You can open your luggage, get dressed, have room service, answer email, or have someone over for a drink without doing all of it from the edge of the bed.

The bathrooms bring in Italian marble and Diptyque bath products. Rooms also include plush robes and slippers, Lavazza espresso machines, full-size hair dryers, garment steamers, stocked minibars, smart TVs, and charging ports beside the bed. Many rooms have private balconies with views of the city.

Deluxe suites add a wet bar, private balcony, separate dressing area, and French doors between the living room and bedroom. Premium suites also have separate dressing areas and either a walk-in shower or bathtub.

Two men getting ready for a night out at the same time will appreciate that separate dressing space more than any brochure couold even start to explain.

Club Level occupies floors 19 through 22 and comes with a dedicated concierge and private lounge. Breakfast is served in the morning, followed by afternoon tea and snacks, evening cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, then desserts and cordials. The lounge also has a full-service bar and outdoor terraces.

Book your stay at Windsor Court and compare the room and suite categories before making your booking. The jump from a guest room to a true suite buys a meaningful amount of extra space.

The Rooftop Pool Is Better In The Morning

The fourth-floor pool area was recently renovated with new furniture and cabanas. The 65-foot saltwater pool is open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. and heated during the cooler months. Poolside food and drinks are available, with The Pool Bar operating seasonally.

Go in the morning if getting some sun is part of the plan. The surrounding buildings put more of the deck into shade later in the afternoon.

The pool is especially appreciated during a longer New Orleans trip. A couple of hours between sightseeing and dinner can save you from trying to cram another attraction into an already full day.

The Gym Is Actually Equipped For A Workout

The fitness center is also on the fourth floor and includes two Peloton bikes, Precor cardio and weight machines, TechnoGym equipment, free weights, exercise balls, and other strength-training equipment. Bottled water and seasonal fruit are provided, and granola bars were stocked as well.

There is enough equipment here for a complete full-body workout instead of the usual hotel-gym compromise of an old spin bike and weight bench.

The Spa at Windsor Court adds massages, facials, body treatments, nail services, and private fitness sessions. Spa guests receive robes, sandals, a private locker, and access to the steam rooms, saunas, relaxation areas, rooftop pool, and fitness center.

Have Dinner, Tea, Or At Least A Martini

The Grill Room serves breakfast, weekday lunch, dinner Wednesday through Sunday, and jazz brunch on weekends. The menu centers on Modern American cooking with New Orleans influences, with Gulf seafood, steaks, caviar service, and updated Creole dishes among the current offerings.

The dining room is worth looking around while you eat. Three large murals by New Orleans artist Auseklis Ozols depict the city around the turn of the 20th century. Look closely and Louis Armstrong and Tennessee Williams appear among the painted figures.

The Polo Club has dark wood, leather furniture, classic cocktails, elevated pub food, one of the city’s larger Cognac collections, and live local jazz every night. It is the obvious stop for a martini before dinner or a nightcap before heading upstairs.

Le Salon handles the British side of Windsor Court with afternoon tea Friday through Sunday. Service includes loose-leaf tea, sandwiches, house-made scones, desserts, and live harp or piano music.

There is also Last Sunday Coffee Bar, poolside dining, and 24-hour in-room dining. Windsor Court has a substantial wine collection and cellar as well, giving the wine gays plenty to investigate between New Orleans cocktails.

Pay Attention To The Art And Fresh Flowers

Windsor Court has an extensive art collection spread through the property rather than tucked into one designated gallery. Original paintings, portraits, sculpture, and decorative pieces turn hallways and lounges into places worth slowing down for.

On the second floor, look for the painting filled with recognizable New Orleans names and faces. See how many you can identify before checking.

Fresh flowers and live plants are another recurring detail. New floral arrangements are installed throughout Windsor Court every Thursday, so the public rooms regularly change with new colors and arrangements.

The lobby also has a detailed model of Windsor Castle. Between that, the afternoon tea, The Polo Club, and the property’s traditional interiors, the British references are never far away.

Windsor Court Has Real LGBTQ Connections

Windsor Court’s LGBTQ welcome includes people and community involvement, not simply seasonal branding.

The team includes LGBTQ employees, and chef de cuisine Ricky Anderson serves on the board of the local Pride committee. The spa has also donated to a local organization supporting LGBTQ young people, while individual Windsor Court associates take part in other community efforts.

Windsor Court also has LGBTea, an adults-only version of its afternoon tea held during Southern Decadence. The event was part of the property’s 2026 themed tea calendar on September 5. Marciante says the tea has been connected to Southern Decadence for years.

Her description of the service standard is refreshingly simple: “I think also, we’re a luxury property, which means step one is: be nice, be discreet, and let people do their thing.”

For gay travelers, that means a same-sex couple sharing a king bed should be ordinary. What you wear out for the night should be ordinary. Coming back late, ordering room service, heading to the pool together, or having cocktails in The Polo Club should be ordinary.

That kind of easy, discreet hospitality suits this property very well.

While you won’t find a rainbow Pride flag on the front door or flying from a flag pole, trans and non-binary guests will find a gender-neurtral restroom in the public area.
